Mumbai, May 27 (NationPress) Actor Vinay Pathak, portraying Bali in Chidiya, opted for the spot boy's clothing on set, even though he had a complete wardrobe specifically crafted for his role.
“This wasn’t a choice made without thought, but it felt essential to me,” Vinay reflected.
He continued: “The narrative of Chidiya is centered around simplicity and a certain authenticity. The outfits were designed to embody that, yet the feel of everyday, worn clothing resonated more genuinely with the world we aimed to depict.”
For Pathak, immersing himself in the character was crucial, which led him to abandon the tailored wardrobe, according to director Mehran Amrohi.
“By opting to wear clothing that wasn’t custom-designed but carried the essence of lived experience, he was able to forge a deeper connection with the trials and essence of Bali, a man enduring hardships while continually seeking small joys amidst his adversities,” Amrohi expressed.
Amrohi appreciated Vinay’s choices.
“Vinay’s willingness to seize the moment, even in something as seemingly trivial as his attire, highlights his dedication to the film,” he remarked.
Chidiya also features Amruta Subhash, Svar Kamble, and Ayush Pathak. It narrates the tale of Shanu and Bua, two young brothers from a Mumbai chawl, whose aspiration of playing badminton transforms into a journey of joy, resilience, and unforeseen friendships.
With support from their mother and their quirky neighborhood, they repurpose a neglected junkyard into a badminton court, fueled solely by hope and creativity.
The lyrics are penned by Mehran Amrohi and Jitendra Joshi, while the film is both written and directed by Amrohi. Chidiya is set to hit selected theaters across India on May 30, 2025.
Recently, Vinay appeared in the biopic “Phule,” directed by Anant Mahadevan, which chronicles the lives of Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. The film stars Pratik Gandhi and Patralekha.
