Mumbai, July 7 (NationPress) Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri describes his forthcoming film “The Bengal Files” as more than just cinema—he views it as a personal protest.
In a recent post, he expressed his mission to unveil truths and bring to light events that he believes have been obscured or overlooked for an extended period. On Monday, Agnihotri shared a video on his Instagram account, captioning it, “USA, I’m coming to you. The Bengal Files is not just a film but a buried truth every Indian needs to know. It's a film your children must see before it's too late. Come. Watch. Question. See you at the premiere. 10 Grand Premieres | 19 July – 10 August.”
In the video, the filmmaker stated, “Hello, my friends and fans in the USA. The great land of America. I am thrilled to announce that The Bengal Files is the concluding part of my trilogy. The first, The Tashkent Files, was the first one you saw. The second, The Kashmir Files, tells the painful tale of Hindu genocide in Kashmir, which you also witnessed first. Now, the last chapter of this trilogy is on its way to the USA.”
“The Bengal Files. Friends, I assure you, if Kashmir has distressed you, Bengal will haunt you. This is my method of protest. Because our politicians have kept the world in darkness since independence. Historians, intellectuals, and the media have ignored the genocide of our own people. The injustice and persecution of our own community.”
Vivek Agnihotri further remarked, “The communal violence that has wounded India so severely continues to affect us nearly 80 years post-independence. The Bengal Files will disturb you. It will educate your children about our struggles. Despite everything, we remain the most inclusive society globally. I use my films, friends, as a representation of India's power. I utilize my films to raise awareness about our own narrative.”
“Once again, be among the first in the world to witness one of the most significant films of our era, The Bengal Files. It's more than a film; it’s a part of India's history. It's your history, my history, the history of your children, and it will remain a part of their children's history.”
He wrapped up with, “Join me in watching it at the cinema along with Pallavi. So, I’ll see you on July 19 in New Jersey, July 20 in Washington DC, July 25 in Raleigh, July 26 in Atlanta, July 27 in Tampa, August 1 in Phoenix, August 2 in Los Angeles, August 3 in San Francisco Bay Area, August 9 in Chicago, and August 10 for a grand finale in Houston. The film will officially release on September 5. You will have the chance to see it in July and August. So, please visit this site and reserve your seat right now. See you soon, America.”
The Bengal Files, penned and directed by Agnihotri, features actors Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Puneet Issar, Govind Namdev, and others.
The film is set to debut in theaters on September 5, marking the final installment of Vivek Agnihotri’s “Files” trilogy, which previously included The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, all centered around pivotal events in modern Indian history.
The Bengal Files delves into the severe communal strife in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, documenting incidents such as Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots.
