Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, February 27 (NationPress) The relatives of Pulak Haldar, a final-year student at Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital and Medical College in the Nadia district of West Bengal, whose body was discovered in a decomposed state in his hostel room, are alleging that he was murdered.
The autopsy on the medical student's remains is scheduled for Friday, and the medical causes behind his death will only be established afterward, according to an investigating officer involved in the case.
Sudhanshu Haldar, the father of the deceased, reported that numerous injuries and lacerations were observed on his son's body, raising suspicions of a potential murder. “This cannot possibly be a natural death. We are calling for a thorough and impartial investigation. I hope the inquiry into my son's death does not end up like the case involving the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024,” he expressed.
Uttam Mondal, a family member, stated that Pulak was not only a high-achieving and diligent student but also a well-mannered individual. “I have also noticed injuries and cuts on his face and abdomen. Therefore, it cannot be dismissed that he was assaulted prior to his death. I trust there will be a fair and proper investigation,” Mondal added.
Initial investigations revealed that Pulak was last seen on February 20 when he visited the hostel canteen for a meal. Since that day, he had not been seen by fellow students or hostel staff.
On Thursday (February 26), a foul odor was detected coming from his hostel room. After receiving no response from inside, the door was forcibly opened, revealing his decomposed body.
The family has also notified authorities that their last phone conversation with Pulak occurred on February 20, the same day he was reported missing.
Furthermore, the family has indicated that Pulak had previously reported experiencing bullying from fellow students during protests related to the RG Kar rape and murder incident. It has also been suggested that he faced academic challenges, although these claims are yet to be officially validated.
