Kolkata, Sep 13 (NationPress) The circumstances surrounding the death of a tribal female medical student from the state-operated R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Malda district, West Bengal, remain unclear. According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon while the victim was with her fiancé, a junior doctor at Malda Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased hailed from Balurghat in South Dinajpur district, where her family resides.
On Saturday afternoon, her parents asserted that their daughter’s demise was unnatural. Her mother accused her fiancé of being responsible, alleging that he wanted to evade their marriage despite their close relationship.
The English Bazar Police Station in Malda has initiated an inquiry into the situation by filing a case of unnatural death.
According to an officer from the Malda District Police, “The preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of death was an overdose of a specific drug. However, the true reason will only be confirmed after the comprehensive post-mortem and viscera reports are obtained.”
Since the announcement of the victim's death at Malda Medical College & Hospital, her fiancé has been missing, and officials are attempting to locate him.
The victim's mother stated to both police and local media that her daughter had been in a long-term relationship with the junior doctor.
“They recently traveled to Puri, Odisha, and tied the knot at a temple. My daughter became pregnant, and I advised both of them to marry, which she accepted. Yet, her fiancé was trying to avoid the marriage and even pressured her into having an abortion, which created friction between them,” her mother recounted.
Just four days prior, the victim's mother indicated that her daughter had gone to Malda to resolve issues with her fiancé and had rented a hotel room in the town.
“On Friday afternoon, we were informed that our daughter was in critical condition. We hurried to Malda from Balurghat, only to discover she had been admitted to the hospital. Upon our arrival, we found her at death's door... and soon she was pronounced dead. I believe my daughter was murdered, and her fiancé likely administered something toxic. She would never take her own life. We demand the harshest punishment for him,” her mother insisted.
