Gujarat Achieves TB Detection Milestone with Remarkable Recovery Rates
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, March 23 (NationPress) – Gujarat has successfully met 94% of its tuberculosis (TB) detection goal established by NITI Aayog, boasting a clinical recovery rate of 91.74%. This information was shared by the state health department in anticipation of World TB Day.
Officials highlighted the achievements within the National TB Elimination Campaign, noting that Gujarat identified and registered 131,801 TB patients in 2025, aiming for a target of 140,000.
Out of these cases, 125,301 patients received active treatment, with 121,912 completing their treatment journeys through continuous medical oversight.
The government emphasized that this success aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a ‘TB-Free India’.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has made significant strides in reaching TB registration and treatment objectives,” stated officials.
Addressing the challenges of long-term treatment, the government remarked, “TB treatment demands a prolonged commitment, leading many patients to cease treatment prematurely due to financial constraints.”
To mitigate this issue, financial support was extended to patients throughout their treatment duration.
In 2025, the state distributed Rs 49.10 crore to 92,921 TB patients under the 'Nikshay Poshan Yojana', which offers Rs 1,000 per month to each patient to ensure they receive adequate nutrition during their treatment.
Community involvement has also been a cornerstone of this initiative.
The government declared, “Gujarat has effectively connected healthcare assistance with community engagement.”
A total of 31,058 'Nikshay Mitras', including community volunteers and sponsors, have registered on the national portal, with 10,682 actively participating.
These volunteers have successfully distributed over 4.49 lakh nutrition kits to patients in need.
In addition to treatment and support initiatives, the state has executed extensive screening efforts as part of the central government's 100-day intensive TB elimination campaign launched in December 2024.
The government stated, “Leading the ‘100-day Intensive TB Elimination Campaign’, the state implemented widespread door-to-door screenings.”
As of March 20, 75.39 lakh individuals have been screened for tuberculosis across Gujarat.
This initiative led to the identification of 1,63,426 new cases, all of whom have been placed under active treatment. Officials noted that early detection through proactive screening has facilitated timely treatment, preventing the disease from becoming severe or spreading within communities, thus enhancing outcomes under the campaign.
