Shimla, March 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, officially opened a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility at the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College located in Nerchowk, within the Mandi district.
This advanced facility, developed with an investment of Rs 28.44 crore, represents a significant advancement in the region's healthcare services.
Following the establishment of the Atal Super Speciality Hospital in Chamiyana and the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, this hospital now stands as the third institution in the state to provide robotic surgical options.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Sukhu witnessed the inaugural surgery conducted using this innovative system.
He announced that robotic surgery capabilities would soon be expanded to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla and Hamirpur Medical College.
To date, 151 surgeries utilizing robotic systems have been successfully completed at Chamiyana, while 92 surgeries have been performed at Tanda Medical College, yielding positive results.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government's commitment to integrating cutting-edge medical technology across all medical colleges, striving to achieve standards akin to those at AIIMS Delhi.
He emphasized that these institutions should evolve beyond being mere referral centers.
To enhance skills, doctors will be sent for exposure visits to further their understanding and training in modern medical techniques.
Addressing the financial limitations, Sukhu acknowledged the time needed to rectify disrupted systems.
He pointed out that the cessation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) has led to an annual budget reduction of approximately Rs 10,000 crore.
Nonetheless, the government is poised to allocate around Rs 3,000 crore for advanced medical technologies in the upcoming years.
He asserted that no financial shortfall would impede the advancement of healthcare services.
The Chief Minister also declared the launch of a cardiology department at the Nerchowk Medical College.
Postgraduate courses are set to commence across all departments of the college.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that medical colleges will consist of student sections of 60 each, with corresponding staff levels to ensure high-quality medical education.
