What New Steps is the Government Taking to Enhance Patient Care? Tripura CM Explains
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agartala, Dec 24 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the number of patients seeking medical care outside the state has markedly declined, a change he attributes to significant enhancements in the local healthcare system.
In an effort to further facilitate patient care, the state government has rolled out an Inter-Departmental Referral System (IDRS), he stated. While inaugurating National Dentist Day-2025 and the 24th Annual Conference of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) at Pragya Bhavan, Saha highlighted that December 24 is also the birth anniversary of esteemed dentist Padma Bhushan Rafiuddin Ahmed.
He pointed out that the Indian Dental Association had chosen December 24 as National Dentist Day during a meeting in Jaipur on January 17, 2016, to emphasize the importance of dental health and promote awareness regarding regular dental check-ups.
“The contribution of dental surgeons in enhancing oral health is immensely important. Such awareness campaigns should extend beyond a single day and be promoted throughout the year,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Addressing the wider significance of dentistry, Saha, a dental surgeon himself, expressed that dental health is integral to mental wellness and helps individuals manage stress effectively.
In a humorous note, he remarked that while no dental surgeon in India has previously ascended to the role of Chief Minister, he has broken that mold, often inviting queries from the opposition regarding a dentist leading a state.
The Chief Minister also underscored the vital function of forensic odontology, stating it is essential for identifying unidentified bodies and victims during disasters like plane crashes and tsunamis through the use of dental records.
Discussing the advancements in healthcare, Saha, who oversees the Health portfolio, mentioned that the capacity at the government-run GB Hospital has been doubled, with plans for an additional 100 beds soon.
He noted that five successful kidney transplants have been conducted in the state with support from a private hospital in Manipur.
“To enhance patient convenience and improve inter-departmental coordination, the Inter-Departmental Referral System has been established,” he stated, affirming that the government is dedicated to ensuring quality healthcare for everyone.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, the nation is progressing towards the vision of a 'New India', with Tripura aiming to advance along the same path.
The event was graced by prominent figures such as Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Health Department, Dr. Saju Wahid, Director of the National Health Mission, Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of the Health Department, along with other senior officials and distinguished doctors.
