Helsinki, Feb 5 (NationPress) Swedish police announced on Wednesday that the number of fatalities in the school shooting in Orebro, located in central Sweden, has increased to 11, with six additional individuals receiving hospital treatment.

During a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Orebro Police Chief Roberto Eid Forest stressed that the main objective now is to uncover the motive behind the attack.

"We are working diligently to determine if anyone else was involved," he stated, but refrained from discussing whether the firearm used was legally owned.

Regarding the suspected shooter’s death, Forest mentioned he could not confirm it as a suicide, although evidence strongly indicates it might be so. He urged the public to rely solely on confirmed information, stating, "Rumors and speculation only lead to increased distress." Earlier reports indicated that no ideological motives had been found.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the Swedish government mandated that flags be flown at half-mast on all state buildings and encouraged the public to do the same.

The Swedish royal couple is set to visit Orebro later on Wednesday to pay their respects at the school site. A memorial service will take place at St Nicolai church, with the King and Queen expected to be in attendance, as announced by the Royal Palace.

The tragic shooting occurred at noon on Tuesday at Risbergska Skolan, an educational institution primarily for adults in Orebro. According to police reports, the suspected shooter is among the deceased.

Mats Knutson, a political analyst from Swedish Radio (SR), pointed out that the shooting takes place amidst a rise in armed violence in Sweden, noting that the last few months have seen an alarming increase in explosions, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Sweden is currently facing a crisis, and it is the government's duty to bring the nation together, Knutson remarked.

This incident marks the first school shooting in Sweden since 1961. Although there have been instances of fatal violence in schools before, they predominantly involved knives, according to Swedish media.
