On March 15, Johannesburg (NationPress) reported that a mass shooting in Eldorado Park, located south of Johannesburg, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left six others injured, according to local law enforcement.

The shooting took place on Saturday evening when a group of approximately eight unidentified men entered a yard where a social event was happening and began firing indiscriminately before fleeing on foot, as stated by Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Brenda Muridili.

The six victims who sustained injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Muridili noted that, as of now, no suspects have been apprehended and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. A manhunt is currently in progress, and authorities are appealing for anyone with information to assist in the investigation.

In a recent related event, SANDF troops arrived in parts of Johannesburg, including Eldorado Park and Riverlea, in a prominent display of authority on March 11, 2026.

This deployment is part of a national strategy aimed at assisting the South African Police Service (SAPS) in combating gangsterism, violent crime, and organized criminal activities in communities troubled by lawlessness.

Videos showcasing military vehicles entering Eldorado Park, an area long affected by gang violence, circulated widely on social media, igniting various discussions surrounding the military presence.

Previously, on June 14, 2025, nine individuals were shot outside a mosque in Eldorado Park, leading to three fatalities.

Witness reports indicated that the shooting occurred in Extension-1 during the late evening around 9 p.m., as the four victims were gathered outside the mosque with five other young men when a white Audi drove by and opened fire.

Additionally, a man shot a woman and injured another by randomly firing into a crowd in Eldorado Park on May 14, 2025, after approaching a group near a tuckshop.

In another incident, City Power security officials engaged in a shootout with a suspect in Eldorado Park, where the suspect was fatally wounded while attempting to steal cables, and an accomplice was taken into custody.
