Kabul, July 27 (NationPress) Afghan counter-narcotics authorities have successfully uncovered 57 kg of opium and detained an individual suspected of drug smuggling in Badakhshan province, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Sunday.
This illicit substance was found during a series of operations on the outskirts of the Argo district, the statement noted, confirming the arrest of one person related to this case.
Previously, on July 24, Afghan security forces in Zabul province seized 1,000 kg of illegal drugs and apprehended two individuals accused of drug smuggling. This operation revealed that the opium was hidden within a truck during a counter-narcotics mission in the Shahjoy district, as reported by the ministry and covered by Xinhua.
The two suspects were taken into custody, and their case files were sent to the judiciary for further examination.
In another operation, the Afghan national army successfully thwarted drug smuggling attempts in Helmand province, detaining three alleged drug traffickers, as stated by army spokesperson Jawed Agha on Tuesday.
The contraband included 730 kg of opium poppy concealed within a vehicle, which was identified and seized by army personnel. Additionally, two assault rifles and two satellite phones were found with the detainees and were forwarded to relevant authorities for investigation.
On July 20, police incinerated over half a tonne of illegal drugs in Kandahar province. The destroyed substances included 130 kg of opium poppy, 480 kg of methamphetamine, and 660 stimulant tablets, which had been collected over the past two months and publicly burned.
Officials emphasized that police will not permit anyone to produce, process, or traffic illegal drugs.
