Jaipur, April 13 (NationPress) In a significant diplomatic encounter intertwining heritage and culture, Haji Syed Salman Chishty, the cleric of Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Chairman of the Chishty Foundation, engaged with Ambassador Neelam Rani, the Consul General of India in St. Petersburg.

The dialogue was centered around enhancing India-Russia relations through various cultural and spiritual avenues, as reported by officials from the Dargah on Monday.

This meeting took place during Chishty’s official journey to Russia, which encompassed both St. Petersburg and Moscow. Against the rich historical backdrop of St. Petersburg, both parties underscored the necessity for the India-Russia alliance, traditionally rooted in mutual trust, to extend beyond just defense and trade. They identified cultural outreach and spiritual heritage as vital avenues for further collaboration.

Topics discussed included the organization of cultural festivals, Sufi music and 'qawwali' events, classical art exchanges, and exhibitions showcasing their shared traditions. A significant emphasis was placed on enhancing interfaith dialogue and spiritual partnerships.

Chishty highlighted that the Sufi principle of “peace with all” resonates well within Russia’s multifaceted religious environment. He pointed out regions like Tatarstan, Dagestan, Bashkortostan, and the Caucasus, which are known for their vibrant Sufi traditions, suggesting potential collaborative efforts. Both parties deliberated on structured interfaith dialogues, academic collaborations, and mutual spiritual delegations to actively engage with their shared heritage.

Stressing that enduring international relations are built on human connections, they also recognized youth exchanges, academic partnerships, and cultural immersion programs as essential focal points. These initiatives aim to broaden the scope of bilateral relations beyond governmental interactions.

The conversation also revisited the historical intellectual connections between the two nations, referencing Leo Tolstoy’s engagement with Indian philosophy and Mahatma Gandhi’s influence on Russian ideology.

Chishty remarked that Ambassador Neelam Rani exemplifies India’s civilizational approach to diplomacy, asserting that India-Russia ties are firmly rooted in shared values of peace and humanity. He expressed his dedication to propagating the harmonious message of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz across borders.

The Indian envoy welcomed the visit enthusiastically and acknowledged the efforts to elevate India’s spiritual and cultural heritage. She reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at deepening cultural bonds and enhancing people-to-people connections between India and Russia.
