Almost One Million Afghan Refugees Make Their Way Back Home in Eight Months

Kabul, Dec 8 (NationPress) A staggering 970,000 Afghan refugees have made their way back to their homeland from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey over the last eight months.

According to Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, the spokesman for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, approximately 88,000 individuals returned from Pakistan, around 5,000 from Turkey, with the remainder coming from Iran, as reported by the Xinhua news agency and local media outlet TOLO news on Sunday.

Official statistics from the ministry indicate that nearly 7 million Afghan refugees are currently residing abroad, predominantly in Pakistan and Iran, which border Afghanistan.

The Afghan caretaker government has consistently encouraged Afghan refugees to abandon their status as expatriates and return home to assist in the reconstruction of their war-torn nation.
