Approval Rating of South Korean President Reaches Record Low Amid Martial Law Controversy

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) President Yoon Suk Yeol has seen his approval rating decline to 17.3 percent, the lowest since he assumed office in 2022, a recent poll indicated on Monday.
The poll, carried out by Realmeter and commissioned by a local news organization, revealed a staggering 7.7 percentage point decrease in positive feedback regarding Yoon's performance compared to the previous week, following his sudden announcement of martial law last Tuesday.
Negative evaluations of Yoon surged by 8.2 percentage points, reaching an all-time high of 79.2 percent, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
This survey, conducted from Thursday to Friday of last week among 1,012 adults, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.
In a separate assessment by the same polling organization involving 1,012 individuals aged 18 and older during Thursday and Friday, the approval ratings of the ruling People Power Party decreased by 6.1 percentage points to 26.2 percent, while the main opposition Democratic Party saw an increase of 2.4 percentage points, rising to 47.6 percent.
The disparity in approval ratings between these two parties reached 21.4 percentage points, the widest since the Yoon administration began, according to Realmeter.
This survey also holds a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
