Khartoum, March 18 (NationPress) At least seven civilians, including two children, were killed due to artillery shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of Omdurman, located north of Sudan's capital Khartoum, as reported by the state government.

The state's media office stated that the systematic shelling on Sunday resulted in injuries to 43 individuals, including 18 children aged between four and twelve years. The wounded have been promptly transferred to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

The shelling targeted neighborhoods in the Karari locality during a volunteer prayer gathering, a time when the squares were filled with children playing football, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

A paramedic from Al-Nao Hospital in Omdurman informed Xinhua that most of the injured sustained limb injuries from flying projectiles.

“Some of the injured had to undergo amputations, while others have suffered head injuries requiring medical intervention not available at this facility,” the paramedic, who requested anonymity, mentioned.

The RSF has not issued any immediate response regarding this incident.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) often accuses the RSF of conducting bombardments in the Karari locality, the only densely populated area in Omdurman, which also houses several Sudanese army bases, including the Wadi Seidna military area that contains a military airport.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a catastrophic conflict between the SAF and RSF, resulting in at least 29,683 deaths, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, a crisis monitoring group cited by the United Nations.

This ongoing conflict has displaced over 15 million people, both internally and externally, according to estimates by the International Organization for Migration.
