At Least 65 Civilians Lose Lives in Attack by Paramilitary Forces in Sudan's Omdurman City

Khartoum, Dec 11 (NationPress) At least 65 civilians lost their lives due to an artillery assault conducted by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Omdurman city, situated north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, as reported by the Khartoum State government.

The statement from the press office declared, "The terrorist militia executed the largest human massacre today (Tuesday) through artillery shelling aimed at citizens in Karari locality, resulting in over 65 fatalities and injuring hundreds more, who have overwhelmed local hospitals."

Ahmed Osman Hamza, the governor of Khartoum State, visited the affected regions, including the bus station in Karari locality in northern Omdurman, where a shell struck a passenger bus, claiming 22 lives, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

The remaining victims were caught in a concurrent shelling that targeted a market adjacent to the bus station and a nearby health center.

The governor condemned the RSF for assaulting defenseless citizens, emphasizing that "this attack intends to terrorize and intimidate the populace into abandoning safe areas," as stated in his remarks.

He urged the international community and relevant organizations to take action in safeguarding civilians who are directly targeted by the "militia" within their homes, markets, and healthcare facilities.

Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, the director general of Khartoum State's health authorities, remarked that "hospitals in Omdurman are still receiving casualties, both deceased and injured, while healthcare professionals are tirelessly working to save lives and provide medical assistance."

As of now, the RSF has not issued any statement regarding the incident.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF.

This brutal conflict has resulted in over 27,120 fatalities and has displaced more than 14 million people, either within Sudan or to neighboring countries, as estimated by international organizations.
