20 Civilians Lose Lives in RSF Assault on Displacement Camps in Sudan

Khartoum, Dec 28 (NationPress) At least 20 civilians lost their lives and 17 others were injured during assaults by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on two camps for displaced individuals in El Fasher, Sudan, a local government official reported on Saturday.

Last night (Friday), a drone operated by the RSF militia dropped four bombs on Qoz Bena school, a site accommodating hundreds of displaced persons in El Fasher, resulting in the deaths of 19 civilians and injuries to 16 others, stated Ibrahim Khatir, the director-general of the health department in North Darfur State.

This morning, the militia initiated artillery bombardment on the Abu Shouk displacement camp, located north of El Fasher, claiming the life of one civilian and injuring a girl,” he continued. The RSF has yet to comment on the assault in the Abu Zeriga area.

Previously, on December 4, the governor of Sudan's Darfur region revealed that 20 civilians had been killed in an attack by the RSF in an area of North Darfur State.

“The RSF perpetrated a massacre in the Abu Zeriga area, south of El Fasher city, resulting in the deaths of 20 civilians and injuries to 20 others,” Governor Minni Arko Minnawi stated in a post on his Facebook account.

Minnawi indicated that the incident occurred on December 3.

He urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to dispatch international investigation teams to document these crimes and seek justice for the victims.

Additionally, he called on aid organizations to bolster their efforts in providing humanitarian relief to the impacted population amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

Meanwhile, the non-governmental organization Sudanese Doctors Network reported that the attacks resulted in 21 civilian deaths and 13 injuries.

Since May 10, intense conflicts have erupted in El Fasher between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which have been engaged in a violent struggle.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict between the SAF and the RSF, resulting in at least 29,683 fatalities and displacing over 14 million individuals, both internally and externally, according to the latest estimates from international organizations.
