At Least 20 Civilians Lost Their Lives in Paramilitary Assault in Sudan

Khartoum, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Governor of Darfur in Sudan declared that 20 civilians were killed in an assault carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a location within North Darfur State.

Governor Minni Arko Minnawi stated on Wednesday via a post on his Facebook page, "The RSF has executed a massacre in the Abu Zeriga area, south of El Fasher city, resulting in the deaths of 20 civilians and leaving 20 others injured."

According to reports from the Xinhua news agency, this tragic incident occurred on Tuesday.

He urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to dispatch international investigation teams to record the atrocities and ensure that the offenders face justice.

Furthermore, he called upon aid organizations to enhance efforts in delivering humanitarian support to the affected individuals amidst the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Doctors Network, a non-governmental organization, reported that the assault resulted in 21 civilian deaths and 13 others injured.

The RSF has yet to provide any statement regarding the incident in the Abu Zeriga area.

Since May 10, intense conflicts have erupted in El Fasher between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, who have been entrenched in a brutal conflict since mid-April 2023.

Currently, the ongoing warfare in Sudan has resulted in over 27,120 fatalities and displaced more than 14 million individuals, either within the nation or abroad, as per estimates from international organizations.
