Khartoum, April 13 (NationPress) Over 114 civilians have lost their lives in assaults conducted by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on two displacement camps in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State in western Sudan, as reported by a local official.
"Over 100 civilians perished due to the brutal assault initiated by the RSF militia on the Zamzam displacement camp yesterday (Friday), with many sustaining injuries," stated Ibrahim Khatir, director general of North Darfur State's health authority, to Xinhua.
"On Saturday, an additional 14 civilians were killed during another militia strike on the Abu Shouk displacement camp, with numerous others injured," he continued.
Khatir disclosed that among those deceased in the Zamzam camp were nine staff members of Relief International, a non-profit organization running a field hospital in the camp, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The volunteer group known as Emergency Room indicated in a statement that 40 civilians were killed and hundreds more injured on Saturday due to intense shelling by the RSF on the Abu Shouk camp.
The RSF has not yet provided any immediate response regarding these assaults.
Since May 10, 2024, fierce conflicts have erupted in El Fasher between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF.
Sudan has been caught in a devastating strife between the SAF and the RSF since mid-April 2023, resulting in over 29,600 fatalities, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, a crisis monitoring entity referenced by the United Nations.
