Dhaka, Nov 27 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh vehemently denounced the “groundless and fabricated corruption case” aimed at tarnishing the reputation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family on Thursday.

The party's condemnation follows a Dhaka court's decision to sentence Hasina to 21 years in prison for three corruption cases initiated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) concerning irregularities in plot allocations under the Purbachal New City Project. Furthermore, her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, reportedly received five-year prison sentences in relation to one of these cases.

The Awami League declared plans for nationwide protests, demonstrations, and resistance activities on Friday against the ruling linked to this “false and fabricated corruption case”.

In a sharp criticism of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, the Awami League accused the “illegal, usurping, killer-fascist Yunus clique” of seizing state power and throwing the country into chaos.

“There is no rule of law in Bangladesh. Justice is absent in the courts, which have become instruments serving the interests of the illegitimate regime and fulfilling their political agendas. Today's judiciary operates under the influence of loyalists who have compromised their integrity. This is evident as the court dismissed the 6.66 billion taka tax-evasion case against the usurper Yunus while fabricating unfounded claims regarding a legitimately acquired plot to defame the Bangabandhu family,” stated an Awami League release.

“The law is explicit: individuals without property in their names can purchase plots by adhering to the established guidelines. Under the undisputed leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh achieved independence. The Bangabandhu family has made significant sacrifices for the nation, and those members without land in Dhaka city are entitled to acquire a RAJUK plot. Where is the corruption in that?” the statement continued.

The Awami League further noted that Sajeeb Wazed Joy has already challenged the allegations, asserting that the family members named in the plot allocations do not possess any other properties. The party emphasized that if the “current illegal Yunus regime” can provide evidence to the contrary, it should do so.

“Instead of adhering to legal protocols or presenting evidence, the regime is attempting to disgrace the Bangabandhu family purely out of political spite. This is also a move to oust them from politics,” the Awami League argued.

Condemning the “conspiratorial maneuvers of the illegal, killer-fascist Yunus clique,” the party expressed faith that the people of Bangladesh will reject the court's verdict.

Point of View

I recognize the significance of the Awami League's claims regarding the verdict against Sheikh Hasina. The allegations of political motivation raise critical questions about the integrity of the judicial system in Bangladesh. It is essential to monitor how the situation unfolds and the public's response to this contentious verdict.
