Dhaka, April 8 (NationPress) The Awami League, headed by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has harshly criticized the recent ruling by a Dhaka court that denied bail and imprisoned 80 lawyers who had recently surrendered. The party claims these lawyers, who have advocated for the rights of the oppressed and marginalized Bangladeshi citizens, are being targeted as they might reveal the 'fraudulent nature' of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

The party condemned the interim administration for unlawfully seizing state power and exerting control at every level of government. It asserted that the 'fascist' Yunus government has not only installed compliant allies as judges but has also engaged in blatant interference with the judiciary. Through coercive means, it has unlawfully dismissed high court judges.

'When individuals are victims of injustice or lose their rights, they seek justice through the courts. Yet, the Yunus regime continues to misuse the judiciary, issuing one unlawful order after another, thus setting a dreadful precedent in our history. The lawyers who were granted bail from the high court reported to the lower courts, seeking bail and surrendering in good faith,' the statement continued.

'However, instead of granting their requests, the court ordered their imprisonment. These lawyers have fought in the courts to champion justice for those who suffer injustice or are deprived of their rights. Today, these very lawyers have been subjected to cruel and unjust court orders.'

The party protested the court's decision, noting that since the unlawful assumption of power, the Yunus-led interim government has persecuted Awami League leaders and activists simply for their political beliefs. Furthermore, athletes, artists, intellectuals, and cultural workers have faced harassment through baseless and fabricated murder charges.

Condemning the unconstitutionally appointed interim government, the Awami League stated that the Yunus-led administration has weaponized the courts to target lawyers with fabricated cases, including senior and female legal professionals.

The interim government is also procrastinating on granting bail for all accused, even those who are entitled to it, confining them in prison for extended periods under false and unfounded allegations, the Awami League revealed.

Expressing concern, the party highlighted alarming instances where individuals are detained in other cases even after receiving bail in one case, under the pretext of 'show arrest.'

'We demand the immediate withdrawal of all politically motivated, false, and harassing charges against these lawyers and others. We also insist on the unconditional release of all political prisoners. The direct and indirect support of this government has led to chaos nationwide, turning our country into a prison. The people of Bangladesh, who yearn for democracy, seek liberation from the grip of this fascist Yunus government. The Bangladesh Awami League will continue to fight for the freedom and rights of the people,' concluded the party's statement.
