Dhaka, July 21 (NationPress) - A training aircraft from the Bangladesh Air Force tragically crashed into a school building in the capital, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon. This was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
As per the ISPR, the Chinese-made F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 1:06 PM local time and collided with the Milestone School and College building in Uttara around 1:30 PM.
The leading Bengali daily, Prothom Alo, reported that the Fire Service confirmed at least one fatality due to the incident, with rescue operations currently ongoing at the crash site.
Four individuals with injuries were transported to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) via an Air Force helicopter.
A teacher from Milestone College recounted to 'The Daily Star' that he was near the college building when the aircraft struck the front of the three-story structure, leaving several students trapped inside.
According to reports, college staff and teachers swiftly moved to rescue the students. Army personnel arrived shortly thereafter, accompanied by firefighters who joined the operation.
The Bangladesh Army, along with eight fire engines from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, quickly responded to the situation, initiating rescue efforts as per a fire service announcement.
Additionally, the Dhaka Tribune noted that eight units from the fire services in Uttara, Tongi, Pallabi, Kurmitola, Mirpur, and Purbachal were engaged in the response.
Social media videos depict several individuals being rescued with injuries and are reportedly being transported to various hospitals, including Uttara Adhunik Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, Uttara Women’s Medical College, and Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital.
