Dhaka, Jan 17 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred in Sadar Upazila of Bangladesh's Rajbari district where a Hindu man was deliberately run over by a vehicle, resulting in his death, according to local media reports on Saturday.
This incident underscores the alarming trend of violence against minority groups within Bangladesh.
The victim, identified as Ripon Saha, was a 30-year-old employee at Karim Filling Station situated near Goalanda Mor in Rajbari.
As reported by Bangladesh's prominent newspaper, The Daily Star, the incident took place on Friday when the driver crushed Saha after he demanded payment for the fuel.
Khondkar Ziaur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, confirmed that the vehicle was seized and its owner, Abul Hashem, who is also the former treasurer of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Rajbari district unit, was arrested from his home in Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
The driver, Kamal Hossain, was also apprehended from Banibhah Nijpara village.
Rahman stated, "This is not an accident. We will file a murder case. The worker stood in front of the car after they refused to pay for fuel, and they ran him over before fleeing," according to bdnews24.
Employees of Karim Filling Station disclosed that a black Land Cruiser filled up with fuel worth 5,000 Bangladeshi Taka early Friday morning.
When Saha attempted to prevent the vehicle from departing without paying, the driver ran him over and escaped, resulting in his immediate death.
