Canberra, Dec 14 (NationPress) Reports from local media indicate that one of the suspected shooters involved in the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday has been named as Naveed Akram, according to a senior law enforcement official who requested anonymity.

The official disclosed that police were executing a raid at Akram's residence located in Bonnyrigg, a suburb of Sydney.

In the shocking incident during a Hanukkah celebration, at least 12 individuals lost their lives, including one shooter, while 29 others, including two police officers, sustained injuries, as reported by the authorities. A second gunman, who is also injured, has been arrested. The New South Wales (NSW) Police have labeled this event a terrorist attack, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News.

At this moment, it remains unclear which of the shooters is Akram. Authorities have indicated that there is no longer an ongoing threat, although they have advised residents to steer clear of the area.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon mentioned that one of the shooters had prior familiarity with law enforcement, but stated, "the person that we know has very, very little knowledge to the police."

"Thus, he is not someone we would have been monitoring at this time," he added.

Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese convened a national security meeting, characterizing the shooting as a "devastating terrorist incident".

"This afternoon there has been a devastating terrorist incident at Bondi at the Hanukkah by the Sea celebration. This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith. An act of evil anti-Semitism and terrorism that has struck the heart of our nation. An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian, and every Australian tonight will be, like me, devastated by this attack on our way of life. There is no place for this hate, violence, and terrorism in our nation," he expressed in a statement.

He assured that Australia's police and security agencies are tirelessly working to investigate anyone connected to this attack and promised that updates will be provided as swiftly as possible. He noted that the horror unleashed at Bondi Beach is "beyond comprehension, and the trauma and loss that families are facing tonight is beyond anyone's worst nightmare".

He commended the swift actions and bravery of the New South Wales Police and first responders for assisting those injured in the assault, and also acknowledged the citizens of Australia who rushed to aid others.

In a message directed to the Jewish community of Australia, Albanese stated: "As Prime Minister, I speak on behalf of all Australians to the Jewish community, we stand with you, we embrace you, and we reaffirm tonight that you have every right to be proud of who you are and what you believe. You have the right to worship, study, live, and work in peace and safety, and you enrich us as a nation. You should never have to endure the loss that you have suffered today or experience the fear that you know tonight. We will allocate every necessary resource to ensure your safety and protection. You are Australian, and all Australians are with you today and every day."

"My fellow Australians, I say tonight that there are nights that tear at our nation's soul. In this moment of darkness, we must be each other's light. Hold on to the true character of the country that we love. Australia is stronger than the cowards who attacked innocent people today. Australia is braver than those who seek to instill fear in us. Australia will never submit to division, violence, or hatred. We will ensure justice is served, and we will emerge from this together," he concluded.
