Phnom Penh, May 13 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, stated on Tuesday that the government places a significant emphasis on the health of its citizens and the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS.
This statement was made during a meeting with Winnie Byanyima, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, as reported by the Prime Minister's spokesperson unit.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei underscored the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to combating HIV/AIDS through the implementation of various policies and strategic action plans, according to the news release.
He expressed that the government is prioritizing the enhancement of the health sector, particularly in terms of improving the well-being of the population.
“When discussing the development of human capital, we must focus on the health of our citizens,” the Prime Minister remarked.
Hun Manet expressed gratitude to the UN for its role in supporting Cambodia's socio-economic growth and praised UNAIDS for its proactive involvement in the battle against HIV/AIDS in the Southeast Asian nation.

She reaffirmed UNAIDS’s ongoing support for Cambodia to reach the 95-95-95 targets for HIV treatment.
These targets signify that 95% of individuals living with HIV are aware of their status, 95% of those aware are receiving life-saving antiretroviral treatment, and 95% of those under treatment are virally suppressed.
The news release indicated that Cambodia has achieved a response rate of 92-100-98 to date.
The National Centre for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (NCHADS) reported that approximately 76,000 individuals are living with HIV/AIDS in Cambodia, with 69,413 receiving antiretroviral therapy.
However, about 7,000 individuals remain unaware of their HIV status and have not begun treatment, according to NCHADS.
