Phnom Penh, Feb 17 (NationPress) Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Monday commended Prime Minister Hun Manet for his effective policies that foster the kingdom's economic growth and social stability.
The monarch expressed these sentiments during the inauguration of the residence of Great Supreme Patriarch Chuon Nath at Unnalom Pagoda in Phnom Penh.
In a speech broadcasted live on state-owned TVK, Sihamoni remarked that Hun Manet "is wise and has appropriate policies to ensure growth and enhance social stability."
Hun Manet, aged 47, assumed the role of Prime Minister of Cambodia in August 2023, succeeding his father, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who now holds the position of president of the Senate.
The Cambodian economy recorded a growth rate of 6 percent in 2024, with projections indicating an increase to 6.3 percent in 2025, potentially raising the gross domestic product (GDP) to approximately 51.4 billion US dollars, as per government forecasts.
In his address, the King also acknowledged Hun Sen for being a "wise and brilliant founder" in revitalizing Buddhism and Buddhist pagodas, which have contributed to social stability and peace under the national motto: "Nation, Religion, King," as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Sihamoni emphasized the significance of the Buddhist or Khmer pagodas, noting that they play a crucial role in promoting morality and ethics, contributing to a harmonious Cambodian society across both religious and social dimensions.
Cambodia is predominantly a Buddhist country, with around 95 percent of the population being Buddhist devotees.
Currently, the Southeast Asian nation boasts over 5,000 Buddhist pagodas and more than 70,000 monks, according to the Ministry of Cult and Religion.
