Washington, March 5 (NationPress) Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney has commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his exceptional leadership and governance, emphasizing his unwavering dedication and commitment to serving the common people. Carney expressed a desire to strengthen the relationship between Ottawa and New Delhi.

During a speech at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday (local time), Carney characterized Modi as a distinctive and extremely disciplined leader, known for his rigorous political agenda.

"This is a remarkable individual. Over the past 25 years, he has not taken a day off, serving continuously as either the Chief Minister of Gujarat or as Prime Minister without interruption," Carney remarked while reflecting on his recent discussions with the Indian leader.

He noted that PM Modi's political engagement is impressively broad.

"Every weekend, he is actively campaigning, attracting 250,000 attendees to his rallies," Carney highlighted, noting the Indian leader's capacity to galvanize widespread support across the nation.

Carney mentioned that his conversations with PM Modi provided valuable insights into the governance philosophy that underpins India's economic reforms and digital initiatives, particularly the drive to connect directly with everyday households.

"He is deeply focused on outcomes, particularly for rural households and the average citizen," Carney stated.

He emphasized how financial and technological reforms under Modi are designed to enhance direct benefit transfers and minimize inefficiencies in public expenditure.

"A primary aim of financial reform and the transformation of the payment system, including UPI and similar initiatives, was to ensure that funds reach individuals directly without losses in the system in real time, thus integrating hundreds of millions into the formal economy," he elaborated.

Carney expressed his admiration for PM Modi's commitment to maintaining a grassroots viewpoint, even while engaging in high-level global diplomacy.

"Despite operating on a global scale, he continually brings the focus back to the everyday concerns of citizens," Carney noted, alluding to Modi’s dedication to the populace.

The Canadian Prime Minister also pointed out that India has been strategically attuned to many of the geopolitical changes currently reshaping the global landscape.

"Their perspective seems to be, why did it take you so long to recognize this? We have maintained a non-aligned stance since gaining independence in 1947," he said while addressing the evolving international order.

Carney indicated that Canada sees considerable opportunities for collaboration with India in emerging technologies and strategic industries.

"We are looking at various areas, particularly in AI, where collaboration with India is essential in building resilience in the technology sector," he noted.

He also recognized the challenges faced in the bilateral relations but stated that both nations are committed to enhancing their partnership.

"In the last 11 months, we have made significant strides with India, not only in economic terms but also in broader security matters. There is still more to accomplish, undoubtedly," Carney concluded.
