Additionally, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Carney are scheduled to participate in the India-Canada CEOs Forum later today. This visit comes at a crucial time for the normalization of ties between India and Canada. Previously, both Prime Ministers agreed to foster a constructive and balanced partnership based on mutual respect and understanding, strong interpersonal connections, and expanding economic synergies.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met with Canadian Prime Minister Carney prior to his bilateral discussions with PM Modi.
Following their meeting, EAM Jaishankar expressed, "I am pleased to meet Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada in New Delhi this morning. I value his commitment to establishing a progressive partnership."
Accompanied by his wife, Diana Fox Carney, Prime Minister Carney arrived in Mumbai last Friday for his inaugural official visit to India from February 27 to March 2.
Upon reaching New Delhi on Monday, he took to X to share, "Arrived in New Delhi to meet with Prime Minister Modi. Canada and India are two confident and ambitious nations eager to build boldly together. We are creating new partnerships in energy, talent, innovation, and AI to enhance security and prosperity for our peoples."
During his time in Mumbai, Carney engaged in business discussions and collaborated with Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry specialists, financial experts, innovators, educators, and representatives from Canadian Pension Funds operating in India.
On Friday, shortly after his arrival in Mumbai, Carney labeled India as "the world's fastest-growing major economy" and expressed his willingness to establish partnerships that unlock new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses.
Sharing a video of his arrival in Mumbai on X, Carney remarked, "India is the world's fastest-growing major economy. We just arrived in Mumbai to meet with business leaders — and forge partnerships that will unlock new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses."
Last November, PM Modi and Carney interacted on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where they discussed India's ambitious target of reaching 50 billion USD in bilateral trade by 2030.
