New Delhi, Oct 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized to Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand that her visit to India would significantly bolster ongoing initiatives to inject new energy into the India–Canada bilateral relationship.

PM Modi commends 'new energy' in bilateral relations during his meeting with the Canadian FM.

Anand, who serves as Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, met with PM Modi on Monday morning before engaging in talks with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar.

During her welcome, Prime Minister Modi reflected on his visit to Canada in June for the G7 Summit, where he had an incredibly fruitful discussion with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

"The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two nations in areas such as trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people connections. He extended his warm regards to Prime Minister Mark Carney and expressed anticipation for their forthcoming interactions," stated a release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

"I met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning in New Delhi. Building on the momentum from Prime Minister Mark Carney's earlier meeting with PM Modi at the G7 Summit this summer, Canada and India are enhancing their relationship while upholding our law enforcement and security dialogues and expanding our economic ties," Anand shared on X following her meeting with PM Modi.

Earlier, EAM Jaishankar noted that the relationship between India and Canada has been progressively developing over recent months, and both countries are actively working to revive the necessary mechanisms to propel the partnership forward.

Welcoming Anand during her inaugural visit to India as Canada's Foreign Minister, EAM Jaishankar stated, "India-Canada bilateral relations have been consistently advancing in recent times. We are focused on restoring and revitalizing the mechanisms needed to enhance our partnership."

"As Prime Minister Modi indicated during his discussion with Prime Minister Carney in Kananaskis, India's perspective is to proceed with a positive attitude. You met with the Prime Minister this morning and have heard directly about our vision for cooperation and how best to achieve it," he added.

He also reminisced about the constructive meeting between National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Canadian NSA Nathalie G. Drouin, referring to it as an important first step toward enhancing security collaboration.

"Our foreign ministries at the level of the secretary and deputy minister convened on September 19 to evaluate the overall relationship, and our trade ministers conversed recently on October 11. When we consider Canada, we recognize a complementary economy, an open society, diversity, and pluralism, which we believe form the foundation for a close, sustainable, and long-term cooperative framework," EAM Jaishankar remarked.

He mentioned that India and Canada have charted an ambitious roadmap to advance collaboration across various sectors, including science and technology, civil nuclear partnerships, AI, trade, and agriculture.

"I am pleased that the two high commissioners have taken up their roles in our respective capitals and participated in today's meeting. This is our high commissioner with whom you have interacted," the EAM added.

"As foreign ministers, it is our duty to guide the process of rebuilding our cooperation and ensure it meets the expectations of our prime ministers and serves the interests of our people. This involves not only initiating efforts within our jurisdictions but also overseeing and integrating interactions across the entire government framework. I look forward to collaborating closely with you, Minister," he concluded.
