In his post on X, EAM Jaishankar stated, "A productive exchange with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand this morning. We focused on advancing our bilateral cooperation and maintaining high-level dialogues."
India and Canada are actively enhancing their collaboration, following a significant meeting between Prime Ministers Mark Carney and Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit in June of the previous year.
Subsequently, both nations reinstated their high commissioners and unveiled a cooperative roadmap, which was shared during Foreign Minister Anand's trip to India from October 12–14, 2025.
Earlier, on January 17, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held discussions with David Eby, Premier of British Columbia, highlighting the necessity of ongoing engagement to open new avenues and strengthen relations between India and Canada.
In his post on X, Goyal remarked on the fruitful nature of his meeting with Eby.
"Our discussions revolved around enhancing the India-Canada economic partnership, promoting trade and investment cooperation, and seeking collaboration in sectors such as critical minerals, manufacturing, clean energy, technology, education, defense, and innovation," the minister added.
"We reaffirmed the necessity of sustained engagement to explore new opportunities and reinforce ties between our nations," he further stated.
On January 21, emphasizing India's crucial role in the realm of inclusive, responsible, and impact-driven artificial intelligence (AI), the Consulate General of India in Toronto hosted the 'India-Canada AI Dialogue 2026', highlighting the importance of bilateral cooperation for mutual economic and societal advancement.
This high-level dialogue was conducted in partnership with the University of Waterloo in Ontario, the India Tech Council, and Zoho Inc.
The Indian Consulate General in Toronto noted that this dialogue is among the few pre-summit events organized globally ahead of one of the largest AI Summits in the Global South—the 'India AI Impact Summit 2026' in New Delhi from February 19–20, aimed at gathering diverse insights and building momentum.
