Casualties Rise to 38 Following Paramilitary Forces Strike in Sudan

Khartoum, Dec 16 (NationPress) The casualty count from a drone strike attributed to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a marketplace in El Fasher, located in western Sudan, has escalated to 38, as reported by a non-governmental organization.

Earlier today, the state news agency SUNA disclosed that a drone strike by the RSF on a market in the Awlad Al-Reef neighborhood of El Fasher resulted in the deaths of over 15 individuals and left many others injured, according to Xinhua news agency.

"The casualty count from the atrocity in the Awlad Al-Reef neighborhood of El Fasher has escalated to 38," stated the Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher, a local non-governmental organization.

The RSF has yet to issue a statement regarding this incident.

Conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, which commenced in mid-April 2023, has led to the deaths of over 28,700 individuals and displaced more than 14 million throughout the nation, according to international organizations.

On December 13, at least 45 civilians were reported dead, and 28 others injured due to artillery shelling conducted by the RSF targeting residential areas and displacement camps in western Sudan.

"Areas within the city of El Fasher experienced a considerable massacre yesterday due to targeted shelling by the rebel militia, resulting in the deaths of 45 civilians, including children and women, and injuring 28 others who were subsequently taken to medical facilities," stated the command of the 6th Infantry Division of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

According to the command’s statement, the shelling was aimed at residential areas in the southern sector of El Fasher, the Zamzam displacement camp located south of the city, and the Abu Shouk camp to the north.
