Islamabad, Sep 30 (NationPress) Another Christian youth has been tragically murdered in a brutal attack orchestrated by a radical Islamist group in the Punjab province of Pakistan, highlighting the perilous situation that religious minorities endure nationwide, according to a prominent human rights organization.

As reported by the Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM), 32-year-old Asif was assaulted near a graveyard in the Daniwal area by seven attackers, three of whom were identified as Azan, Wahab, and Hanan.

The organization indicated that these assailants, affiliated with a radical group, viciously attacked Asif, striking him in the head with bricks multiple times. Despite his desperate cries for assistance, he was unable to survive his grave injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

“This incident was far from a mere act of violence — it was a clear manifestation of religious hatred, aimed at Asif due to his Christian identity and his perceived weakness as a member of a marginalized group. The government's response following this tragedy has been profoundly insufficient,” stated the VOPM.

“While one attacker, Wahab, has been captured, the others are still at large. The authorities' failure to promptly bring all culprits to justice illustrates a disturbing trend of inaction in safeguarding religious minorities. This case starkly demonstrates how the government's lethargy in confronting sectarian violence has fostered an environment where extremism can thrive unchecked, leaving minorities exposed to violence and discrimination,” it added.

The organization emphasized that Asif’s family is not merely grieving the loss of a cherished son and brother but is also lamenting the systemic failures that should have ensured his protection. The VOPM claimed that their calls for justice are overshadowed by a government that consistently neglects to take decisive action against the escalating wave of religious extremism.

This heartbreaking incident, they asserted, is a direct consequence of the Pakistani government’s indifference to curbing hate-fueled violence and ensuring the safety of religious minorities.

“If the state continues to ignore such horrific acts, it sends a strong message that the lives of minority groups are expendable. The government's inaction in situations like this perpetuates a cycle of impunity, allowing perpetrators to continue their reign of terror,” concluded the VOPM.
