Jakarta, June 11 (NationPress) Indonesia has confirmed 75 cases of Covid-19 across the nation since the beginning of this year, according to reports from local media citing the Ministry of Health.

The ministry's spokesperson, Aji Muhawarman, stated that the majority of those who contracted the virus have made a full recovery, with two new infections reported last week.

The ministry has stressed the importance of public vigilance and the continuation of Covid-19 safety protocols, including wearing masks in crowded places and avoiding large gatherings.

This report comes as there has been a slight increase in local infections and heightened global anxiety regarding the emergence of new subvariants.

"The Nimbus variant has not been detected in Indonesia," Muhawarman noted, referring to a variant that is believed to stem from the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

He identified that the variant predominantly seen in Indonesia during April is the LF.7 variant, which is currently causing surges in other countries.

No Covid-19 related deaths have been reported in Indonesia since the beginning of this year, as per Xinhua news agency.

In related news, Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, has also documented 150 new Covid-19 cases from May 30 to June 6, slightly less than the previous week, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Since the start of 2025, the capital has recorded 558 infections, showing a decline of 109 cases compared to the same timeframe last year, the report indicated.

The Hanoi Center for Disease Control has urged local authorities to intensify public communication regarding Covid-19 and other seasonal illnesses.

Amid a resurgence of Covid-19 cases in several neighboring nations, the interim government of Bangladesh has advised citizens to limit travel to these areas unless absolutely necessary.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has also directed relevant authorities to ramp up health screenings and surveillance at all ports to mitigate the spread of the virus.

The directives emphasized that new subvariants of the coronavirus are circulating in several neighboring countries.

To avert potential transmission of these variants into Bangladesh, enhanced surveillance is mandated at International Health Regulations desks at all land, sea, and airports for incoming travelers from affected nations and outgoing travelers from Bangladesh.

As per these directives, individuals are required to wear masks in all gatherings, shopping malls, and restaurants.

Last week, Bangladesh reported its first Covid-19 fatality of the year when a man succumbed to the disease in the capital city of Dhaka.

Point of View

We acknowledge the ongoing challenges posed by Covid-19. While the number of cases in Indonesia appears manageable, the emergence of new variants demands our attention. We must stay informed and vigilant, ensuring that public health remains a priority as we navigate these uncertain times.
