Democratic Party of South Korea Introduces Legislation to Investigate President Yoon's Martial Law and First Lady Controversies

Seoul, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Democratic Party (DP) of South Korea, the leading opposition faction, has put forth a bill for a special counsel on Monday to determine if President Yoon Suk Yeol engaged in treason and other infractions during his recent, fleeting declaration of martial law.
Representative Kim Yong-min, the DP's deputy floor leader for policy, alongside Representative Kim Seung-won, introduced the proposal, requesting the special counsel to probe Yoon's alleged "insurrection", as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
Furthermore, the DP has suggested a bill that would require a special counsel investigation into allegations concerning First Lady Kim Keon Hee, including her purported involvement in a stock manipulation scheme and her interference in election nominations via a power broker.
This marks the fourth iteration of the bill aimed at the First Lady, following a similar proposal that was vetoed by Yoon last month and subsequently discarded in a revote on Saturday.
The bill fell just two votes short of the required 200 votes from the 300-member National Assembly to successfully override the veto.
