Dengue Fatalities in Bangladesh Approach 500

Dhaka, Dec 2 (NationPress) Bangladesh suffered through another tragic month of dengue outbreaks in November, as official reports indicate that nearly 30,000 cases and 173 fatalities were recorded.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 29,652 cases were reported in November, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
With an additional 882 dengue fever cases noted over the last 24 hours as of 8:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, the cumulative dengue count in Bangladesh has now reached 92,351 cases since the beginning of January.
In the past 24 hours up to Sunday morning, six dengue-related fatalities were confirmed nationwide, bringing the total death toll to 494, as stated by the DGHS.
In 2023, Bangladesh recorded 1,705 deaths attributed to dengue, representing the highest annual death toll to date. This is in stark contrast to 281 deaths in 2022 and 179 deaths in 2019.
Dengue fever is a viral illness spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes. The disease presents acute illness with symptoms including headache, high fever, extreme fatigue, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen glands, vomiting, and a rash.
To combat the escalating number of dengue cases, health authorities in Bangladesh have intensified measures to control mosquito breeding and implement anti-larval operations.
