Ontario, Nov 12 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand during the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Niagara, expressing optimism for a revitalized partnership.
In their discussions, the EAM commended the advancements made under the New Roadmap 2025, which focuses on strengthening bilateral relations between India and Canada.
"I am pleased to have met with FM Anita Anand today. I congratulated her on hosting the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting and appreciated the strides made in implementing the New Roadmap 2025. I eagerly anticipate further rebuilding of our bilateral partnership," Jaishankar shared on X on Wednesday.
The EAM's visit to Canada is part of his participation in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting with Outreach Partners, following an invitation from Anand.
This visit follows Anand's recent trip to India, where both ministers agreed to an ambitious cooperation framework for their bilateral relationship.
On October 13, EAM Jaishankar and Anand deliberated on strategies to "restore and reinvigorate" the necessary mechanisms to promote their bilateral partnership.
The ministers acknowledged that amidst current global economic uncertainties and escalating geopolitical tensions, a robust and resilient India-Canada relationship is vital.
A joint statement released after their meeting indicated that, in line with the priorities set by the Prime Ministers of both countries to drive momentum in their relationship, both parties reached a consensus on a 'New Roadmap' for India-Canada relations, based on mutual respect for shared democratic values, the rule of law, and a commitment to upholding the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Revitalizing this partnership will not only foster enhanced economic cooperation but also help alleviate vulnerabilities stemming from shifting global alliances, ensure more reliable supply chains, and reinforce strategic stability in an increasingly intricate international landscape," the statement highlighted.
Earlier in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, for a significant bilateral discussion aimed at mending strained relations.
