Washington, July 3 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM), S. Jaishankar, engaged with two prominent US intelligence leaders, FBI Director Kash Patel and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, on Wednesday.
Following his discussion with Gabbard, he shared on the social media platform X that their conversation was a "productive exchange regarding the global landscape and our bilateral collaboration".
On X, EAM Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for meeting Patel, emphasizing their mutual commitment to combatting organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.
Gabbard, who hails from Hawaii and previously served in Congress, practices Hinduism, as does Patel, who has Indian heritage.
Counterterrorism stands as a significant concern for India, offering avenues for partnership with the US on a global scale, particularly in North America, where terrorism supporters are located in Canada.
In response to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, both nations established the India-US Counter Terrorism Initiative in 2010.
Additionally, there exists an India-US Working Group on Counterterrorism and a US-India Counterterrorism Designations Dialogue aimed at identifying terrorists and affiliated individuals and organizations.
For the US, addressing drug smuggling is one of the primary focuses under President Donald Trump.
Prior to EAM Jaishankar's discussions with US officials, Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed a crackdown on a transnational drug-smuggling ring based in India, which extends to the US.
As stated by the Press Information Bureau, intelligence sharing from India's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) led to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (USDEA) apprehending a key player in an international drug trafficking operation.
"Joel Hall, a significant re-shipper in Alabama, was taken into custody following a coordinated effort, resulting in the seizure of over 17,000 tablets of controlled substances," the bureau reported.
An Indian-American, identified as the network's primary money launderer, is currently awaiting indictment, it noted.
EAM Jaishankar was in Washington for the Quad Ministerial meeting on Tuesday, where he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Ministers Penny Wong from Australia and Takeshi Iwaya from Japan.
He is engaging with key US officials to address critical matters affecting both countries.
Among the other officials he met in bilateral settings were Rubio, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
