US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared a photograph of the maritime security discussion on X, showcasing EAM Jaishankar with other ministers.
In his post, Rubio remarked, “From the Gulf of America to the Pacific, safe and open waterways are essential to the American economy, facilitating the transport of U.S. goods to global markets. Today, we had significant discussions with our @G7 partners about enhancing coordination in support of U.S. initiatives to bolster maritime security.”
Earlier that day, Jaishankar engaged in a bilateral conversation with Rubio, who expressed his condolences regarding the tragic loss of life from the recent Delhi blast.
EAM Jaishankar tweeted, “It was good to meet @SecRubio this morning at the #G7 FMM. I appreciate his condolences regarding the victims of the Delhi blast. We discussed our bilateral relationship, emphasizing trade and supply chain matters. We also exchanged perspectives on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia dynamics, and the Indo-Pacific region.”
On Tuesday, Jaishankar conducted a series of bilateral talks with counterparts from Canada, Mexico, France, Brazil, South Africa, the UK, and Germany.
India's participation in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is as an invited partner under the leadership of Canada, joining nations like Brazil, Australia, and South Korea. This two-day gathering centers on global security, economic resilience, energy collaboration, and reinforcing partnerships in the Indo-Pacific.
Jaishankar's meeting with Rubio follows a recent statement from US President Donald Trump, indicating that the U.S. is nearing a trade agreement with India.
“We are approaching a deal with India, a significantly different arrangement than before… We're pursuing a fair trade agreement, and I believe we’re close to finalizing a deal that benefits all parties,” Trump stated on Monday.
