Paris, March 27 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in a constructive discussion with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the G7 Foreign Affairs Ministerial held in Cernay-la-Ville, France, on Friday.

As per the U.S. State Department, Rubio is set to engage with foreign ministers from allied nations to address mutual security challenges and explore collaboration opportunities. Prior to his visit, the State Department indicated that key topics would include the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Middle Eastern situation, and global threats to peace and stability.
“Heading to France for the G7 Foreign Affairs Ministerial to engage with global leaders regarding the shared security challenges we face and opportunities to navigate the Middle Eastern situation and the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” Rubio tweeted prior to his arrival in France.
Earlier that day, EAM Jaishankar participated in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM), emphasizing the significance of freedom of navigation for global economic stability.
"Discussed cross-cutting threats and sovereignty during today’s G7 FMM session. Highlighted the critical nature of freedom of navigation for economic security globally, as well as the issues of narco-terror connections. Regarding Critical Minerals, I appreciated the steps being taken to enhance cooperation throughout its value chain," Jaishankar stated on X.
He also had a brief meeting with Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani.
On Thursday, EAM Jaishankar shared insights regarding IMEC at the second session of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with invited partners. He stressed the urgency for reforms in the UN Security Council, optimizing peacekeeping operations, and bolstering humanitarian supply chains. He specifically addressed the Global South's challenges concerning energy, fertilizer supplies, and food security.
"The uncertainties stemming from conflicts in West Asia only strengthen the case for more resilient trade routes and supply chains. Additionally, India’s FTAs with the EU, EFTA members, and the UK have significantly enhanced the viability of IMEC. I appreciate the broad support and enthusiasm for realizing this vital connectivity initiative," concluded EAM Jaishankar.
