New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is set to arrive at Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay in France from Thursday through Friday to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) alongside partner nations, according to an official announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The MEA has confirmed that EAM Jaishankar will be attending the meeting following an invitation from Jean-Noel Barrot, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.

During this gathering, he is also anticipated to engage in bilateral talks with his counterparts from various nations involved.

The G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is planned to address several urgent global matters, such as the persistent conflict in Ukraine, recovery efforts, maritime security challenges, and reforms within global governance systems, as outlined in a briefing by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Spokesperson Pascal Confavreux provided insights into the agenda, noting that this meeting follows informal discussions during the UN General Assembly and serves as a preparatory phase for the forthcoming G7 Leaders’ Summit.

"All of this contributes to the groundwork for the summit in Evian, which is scheduled for June 13-15," the briefing highlighted, emphasizing that deliberations at the ministerial level will be crucial for informing leaders’ discussions.

Officials have indicated that the meeting will tackle both immediate crises and long-term structural issues. "Clearly, we will strive not only to hold this informal assembly typical of G7 meetings but also to achieve tangible outcomes," the spokesperson remarked, underlining the necessity for actionable results.

A significant focus will be placed on Ukraine, with dedicated sessions addressing reconstruction and regional security.

"The second session will focus on reconstruction, aiming to produce at least three impactful results," the briefing elaborated, mentioning discussions surrounding nuclear safety, humanitarian demining, and funding strategies for rebuilding efforts. The involvement of institutions like the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will also be emphasized, particularly in mobilizing investments for Ukraine's recovery.

The agenda will further explore maritime security and the resilience of supply chains.

A distinct session is anticipated to concentrate on maritime routes and ensuring navigation freedom.

Regarding governance, the G7 is seeking to promote reforms aimed at strengthening multilateral systems. "Overall, this will lead to more innovative strategies to address horizontal threats jeopardizing the sovereignty of various states," the briefing noted, highlighting efforts to modernize global governance frameworks.

Participation from several non-G7 partner nations, including India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Ukraine, will characterize the meeting, symbolizing a broader outreach initiative by the group.

"We will conduct all these sessions on Thursday and one on Friday morning," the official stated, adding that side events and working lunches will create additional opportunities for in-depth discussions among participants.
