EAM S. Jaishankar to Represent India at Trump's Inauguration on January 20

New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is set to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald Trump in Washington on January 20, as per a release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA highlighted, "At the request of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar will be present at the swearing-in ceremony of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States."
Additionally, the ministry mentioned that Jaishankar will interact with representatives from the new administration and other notable figures during his visit.
Donald Trump will officially take the oath of office at noon on January 20, with the ceremony being conducted by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on the US Capitol steps in Washington. Before that, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will also be sworn in.
Last month, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) declared the theme "Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise" for the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. This theme honors the dedication of the Founding Fathers to safeguarding democracy for future generations.
In remembrance of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100, US flags will be displayed at half-staff during the inauguration. President Joe Biden has mandated that the flags remain lowered for 30 days, concluding at sunset on January 28.
Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election was confirmed by the United States Congress on January 6, paving the way for his return to the White House. This certification officially affirmed the Electoral College results from the November election.
The certification process in Congress, guided by Vice President Kamala Harris, who was Trump's primary competitor in the election, proceeded quickly and without much fanfare.
The swearing-in ceremony symbolizes Trump's return to the Oval Office as he embarks on his second term as President of the United States.
