EAM Jaishankar Set to Visit the United States Before Trump's Second Term

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will travel to the United States of America from December 24-29, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday.

During his visit, he will engage with his counterparts to deliberate on crucial bilateral, regional, and global issues. Additionally, EAM will preside over a conference of the Consul Generals of India in the USA, as noted in the MEA's announcement.

This important trip occurs just before US President-elect Donald Trump is set to take the oath of office for his second term on January 20.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Trump, expressing eagerness to collaborate once more with the Republican leader, who triumphed in the presidential elections against his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.

“Had a great conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space, and several other sectors,” PM Modi, among the first foreign leaders to congratulate Trump, shared on X.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to global peace, with Trump reportedly stating that the entire world admires PM Modi, calling India a magnificent country and the Indian Prime Minister “a magnificent man”.

Simultaneously, PM Modi has built a solid rapport with US President Joe Biden, with relations evolving between the two democracies over the past four years, during which they have met face-to-face numerous times.

They recently convened on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil and at the US President's weekend residence in Delaware last September.

Biden also visited India last year for the G20 summit hosted by PM Modi, where they held several bilateral discussions.

Biden welcomed PM Modi for a state visit to Washington last year, showcasing grand ceremonial displays, and remarked of PM Modi, “Each time, I was struck by our ability to find new areas of cooperation. Together, we're unlocking a shared future of what I believe to be unlimited potential.”

PM Modi and Biden elevated the Quad, which includes Japan and Australia, to the summit level for Indo-Pacific cooperation.

They also established the I2U2 group, comprising India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, designed to reflect the Quad's structure on the western side of India.
