Cairo, April 13 (NationPress) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi engaged in discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who was visiting Cairo. They reviewed the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip and aimed to enhance their bilateral relations into a strategic partnership, as stated by the Egyptian presidency.

Sisi updated Prabowo on Egypt's initiatives to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian assistance for the affected residents, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.

Both leaders stressed the importance of initiating the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing its inhabitants, aspiring for a comprehensive and lasting resolution based on the principles of international legitimacy, as noted by the Egyptian presidency.

They expressed hopes that this resolution would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.

Egyptian exports to Indonesia amounted to $151 million, which is an increase from $137 million the prior year, while imports from Indonesia grew to $1.6 billion from $1.5 billion.

The discussions also addressed boosting defense collaboration through training, capacity building, and the exchange of expertise, especially in response to the regional and global challenges that necessitate closer cooperation among allied nations.
