Cairo, Feb 26 (NationPress) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi emphasized the importance of initiating an immediate recovery and reconstruction initiative in the Gaza Strip without displacing its inhabitants.

Sisi made these comments during a meeting in Cairo with Ammar Al-Hakim, a prominent Iraqi cleric and politician, as stated by the Egyptian presidency.

The two leaders concurred on the urgent necessity for the complete, phased execution of the existing ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, as well as the entry of humanitarian assistance into the area, according to the statement.

They rejected any initiatives aimed at displacing Palestinians, asserting that such actions could jeopardize the Palestinian cause and threaten the stability of regional nations, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The two parties underscored the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders as the only viable solution for achieving lasting peace in the region.

Egypt has intensified its efforts to assist the war-torn Gaza by receiving and providing medical care to sick and injured residents, delivering aid supplies, and promoting the reconstruction of the enclave.

Since the implementation of the Hamas-Israel ceasefire agreement on January 19, a total of 878 patients from Gaza and 2,400 accompanying individuals have crossed into Egypt through the Rafah crossing, as reported by Egypt's press center on Monday.

Additionally, 8,000 trucks carrying 150,000 tons of aid supplies and over 20,000 tents have arrived in Gaza from the Egyptian side.

On the same day, Egypt's North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer confirmed to Xinhua that Egypt has proposed a three-phase reconstruction plan for Gaza, expected to take three to five years to tackle the Strip's infrastructure, housing, and other urgent needs.

This plan has emerged amid growing concerns and widespread criticism regarding US President Donald Trump's contentious proposal to redevelop Gaza and relocate its population to neighboring countries, including Egypt.
