Recent Discussions Between Egyptian FM and Fatah Delegation on Gaza Situation

Cairo, Jan 10 (NationPress) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and a visiting delegation from the Palestinian Fatah movement engaged in talks regarding the latest events in Gaza and the critical efforts required to achieve an immediate ceasefire, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

During their meeting on Thursday, Abdelatty and the Fatah delegation, led by Azzam al-Ahmad and Ahmad Majdalani, who are members of the executive committees of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah central committee, discussed the pressing security and humanitarian issues facing the Gaza Strip.

The two parties also evaluated Egypt's endeavors to facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to the conflict-affected enclave, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's steadfast support for the Palestinian Authority, reiterated the nation's opposition to any plans aimed at displacing Palestinians from their homes, and reaffirmed the importance of uniting Palestinians and strengthening the role of the national authority to fulfill the aspirations of the people.

In response, the Fatah delegation provided updates on the situation in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They also expressed gratitude for Egypt's initiatives to enhance the Palestinian cause and address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Egypt has been a host for delegations from various Palestinian factions and Israel in efforts to conclude the prolonged Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The reported Palestinian casualties from Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, have exceeded 46,000, with injuries reaching approximately 109,378, as announced by health authorities in Gaza on Thursday.
