Israeli and Egyptian Security Officials Engage in Discussions for a Possible Gaza Ceasefire

Cairo, Dec 11 (NationPress) A prominent Israeli security team engaged in discussions with their Egyptian counterparts regarding a potential ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
As reported by Egypt's State Information Service press center, the meeting occurred as Egypt amplifies its initiatives to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate humanitarian aid deliveries into the area, and tackle the escalating crisis in the region, according to Xinhua news agency.
In response to these discussions, Bassem Naim, a high-ranking leader of Hamas, informed Xinhua that "there is nothing new to discuss, apart from renewing contacts to negotiate a deal."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been executing a significant offensive against Hamas in Gaza, triggered by a Hamas assault along the southern Israeli border that resulted in around 1,200 fatalities and 250 hostages taken.
As of Tuesday, the Palestinian death toll from the continuous Israeli bombardments in Gaza has risen to 44,786, as reported by health authorities based in Gaza.
