Israel's Negotiation Delegation Set to Return After Significant Discussions on Gaza Ceasefire

Jerusalem, Dec 25 (NationPress) Israel's negotiation delegation involved in the Gaza ceasefire discussions is preparing to return to the nation from Qatar for internal consultations after significant talks, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
The delegation, which comprises high-ranking officials from the Mossad, Shin Bet security agency, and the Israel Defense Forces, has been participating in a crucial week of negotiations in Qatar, as noted by the office.
They are returning for internal consultations in Israel concerning the future of negotiations aimed at the return of our hostages.
Reports from Israeli and Palestinian media indicate that initiatives led by Qatari, Egyptian, and U.S. mediators have made advancements, although an agreement remains out of reach, according to Xinhua news agency.
The duration of the ceasefire has been a significant hurdle in prior unsuccessful negotiation efforts. Hamas aims to conclude the conflict entirely, while Israel demands the removal of Hamas' governance over Gaza prior to any resolution and insists on retaining a military presence in the Palestinian territory even post-ceasefire.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas initiated an attack on southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities and the kidnapping of around 250 individuals.
Currently, about 100 Israeli and foreign hostages are believed to still be in Hamas' custody in Gaza, with many presumed dead, as per Israeli estimates.
In response, Israel launched a comprehensive military operation, which has devastated large portions of the Gaza Strip. According to health authorities based in Gaza, over 45,300 individuals have lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes.
The duration of the ceasefire has consistently been a crucial point of contention in previous failed negotiations. Hamas demands an end to the conflict, whereas Israel insists on eliminating Hamas' control over Gaza before reaching any agreement and maintaining a military presence in the enclave even after a ceasefire.
Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, causing approximately 1,200 deaths and capturing around 250 people. Currently, around 100 Israeli and foreign hostages remain in Hamas' hands in Gaza, with many believed to be deceased, according to Israeli assessments.
Israel's response involved an extensive military campaign, laying waste to much of the Gaza Strip. As of the latest update, at least 45,317 individuals have died from the Israeli strikes in Gaza, according to health authorities in the region.
