Cairo/Tehran, Aug 18 (NationPress) Egypt has firmly expressed its unequivocal opposition to any Israeli initiatives aimed at displacing Palestinians, cautioning that such actions would constitute an egregious injustice lacking any moral or legal grounds and amount to a grave crime, according to its Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry on Sunday conveyed its serious apprehension regarding reports of Israel engaging in discussions with certain nations about accepting Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
It characterized these talks as part of a condemned Israeli strategy designed to evacuate Palestinian territories of their residents, facilitate occupation, and undermine the Palestinian cause.
Cairo indicated that its discussions with those involved reaffirmed their rejection of such plans, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Egypt categorically opposes displacement, whether in Gaza or the West Bank, whether it is forced or voluntary through starvation, land appropriation, settlement expansion, and making life unbearable for Palestinians.
The Ministry asserted that Egypt will neither accept nor participate in these actions and will not allow them, warning that such actions would lead to the dissolution of the Palestinian cause.
It urged all nations that cherish peace to avoid complicity, highlighting that displacement violates international humanitarian law, breaches the four Geneva Conventions, and constitutes both a war crime and an act of ethnic cleansing.
Iran's Foreign Ministry also denounced what it termed Israel's decision to forcibly relocate Palestinians from Gaza City.
In a statement, Tehran labeled the action as a blatant example of war crimes and crimes against humanity, aimed solely at fulfilling a genocidal agenda to erase Palestine as a nation and identity.
It claimed that Israel's conduct was facilitated by unconditional military and political backing from the US and certain European countries, calling upon Muslim nations and the broader international community to take immediate steps to halt warmongering and genocide against Palestinians.
On Saturday, Israel announced plans to relocate residents of Gaza City to southern Gaza, following indications of a new offensive to take control of the north.
Since the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over 1,200 casualties and approximately 250 hostages taken, Israel's military operations in Gaza have reportedly led to the deaths of 61,944 Palestinians and injuries to 155,886 others, as per Gaza health authorities' statements on Sunday.
The authorities also noted that famine and malnutrition have claimed 258 lives, including 110 children, since the onset of the conflict.
