Cairo, March 25 (NationPress) Egypt expressed strong disapproval regarding Israel's formation of an agency designed to facilitate the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, along with its authorization of 13 new settlements in the West Bank.
In a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Egypt declared on Monday that the so-called "voluntary departure", which Israel asserts this agency aims to promote, is fundamentally unfounded, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency.
"The departure occurring under bombardment and war, combined with policies that obstruct humanitarian assistance and utilize starvation as a tactic, equates to forced displacement, which is a crime and a breach of international law and humanitarian law," the statement emphasized.
Egypt urged the international community and the UN Security Council to take a firm position against these persistent Israeli violations and provocations.
It underscored the Palestinian right to self-determination and the creation of an independent state within the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
On Sunday, the Israeli Defence Ministry announced that Israel's Security Cabinet had sanctioned the creation of a new directorate to manage the "voluntary relocation" of Palestinians from Gaza to third-party nations.
This directorate, operating under the auspices of the Defence Ministry, will oversee the "voluntary departure" of Gaza residents who "express interest" in relocating, as per the Defence Ministry's statement.
The ministry did not specify any third nations or confirm if any had agreed to accept prospective refugees.
Earlier in February, US President Donald Trump unveiled a plan to relocate Gaza's Palestinian population to neighboring countries as part of a broader initiative to reconstruct the war-torn enclave as a "Riviera." However, he later withdrew this plan following widespread international criticism.
The establishment of this new agency coincided with the resumption of Israeli air and ground offensives across Gaza, effectively bringing an end to a two-month ceasefire. Thousands of Palestinians have faced displacement once again as bombardments escalate.
