Egypt and Syria Foreign Ministers Address Escalating Situation in Aleppo and Idlib

Cairo, December 1 (NationPress) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Syrian counterpart Bassam Sabbagh engaged in a telephone conversation concerning the rising tensions in northern Syria, particularly within the regions of Idlib and Aleppo, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Sabbagh provided Abdelatty with updates on the recent escalation of conflicts in his nation, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Abdelatty conveyed his apprehension regarding the situation, reaffirming Egypt's backing for Syrian national institutions and underscoring Syria's crucial role in promoting regional stability and fighting terrorism.

The Syrian army announced on Saturday a temporary repositioning of its troops after severe clashes with militant factions in the northwestern regions of Aleppo and Idlib, according to a statement from the Syrian Defence Ministry.

This past Wednesday, a significant rebel offensive shook the western outskirts of Aleppo province, representing the first major assault since 2016.

On Friday, the rebels managed to capture portions of Aleppo. In retaliation, the Syrian government, aided by Russia and Iran, initiated airstrikes and ground operations to counter the rebels' progress.
