Islamabad, Nov 6 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, marking the eighth consecutive instance of such orders due to her ongoing absence from court proceedings, according to local media reports.

The ongoing case, filed at the Sadiqabad Police Station, involves serious allegations including protesting against the government, chanting anti-government slogans, committing vandalism, and engaging in stone-pelting, as reported by The Express Tribune.

The court has instructed the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority and the Islamabad Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to provide information regarding Aleema Khan's properties.

Additionally, the court directed the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Akif Saeed, to furnish records of any companies or shares associated with her name.

Due to her continued non-appearance, the court on October 24 mandated the NADRA Director General to suspend Aleema Khan’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), ordered the Passports Director General to block her passport, and instructed the Governor of the State Bank to freeze all her bank accounts.

Judge Amjad Ali Shah remarked that Aleema's absence from the court represents a disruption of judicial processes.

As per the report presented during the court session on Thursday, a total of 12 bank accounts belonging to Aleema Khan have been frozen, including one account at MCB containing PKR 124 million.

The court has also issued arrest warrants against the UBL Head Office Manager in Karachi and Habib Metro Bank Manager Syed Mansoor Hussain for failing to submit required reports despite multiple court notices.

Furthermore, contempt notices were issued to Soneri Bank and Bank of Punjab for their non-compliance in report submissions.

The prosecution argued that Aleema Khan is deliberately undermining the legal process, as the court has been unable to proceed with witness statements due to her absence. The hearing has been adjourned until November 10.

This marks the latest in a series of non-bailable arrest warrants issued against Aleema Khan, with previous warrants on October 14, 20, and 22, following her continued non-appearance.

On October 14, the court denied a request from Aleema Khan's attorney to excuse her from attendance, emphasizing the necessity of her presence for formal charges to be brought.

The most recent non-bailable warrant was reissued on November 4 for Aleema Khan and her legal representatives after yet another failure to appear in court.

Point of View

It is crucial to highlight the importance of accountability within our legal system. The ongoing situation involving Aleema Khan reflects the broader issues of political influence and judicial integrity in Pakistan. The court's recent decisions underscore a commitment to uphold the rule of law, regardless of personal affiliations.
